The devil did not tempt Adam and Eve to steal, to lie, to kill, to commit adultery; he tempted them to live independent of God.
Everyone lies… covets… and sins the “normal” sins of a “normal” life in this world. But the greatest temptation of the devil is that which lures us away from depending on God. We depend on God for:
- Life!
- Forgiveness of Sins
- Salvation
- Instruction on how to live in a way that is pleasing to God.
The original sin (Lucifer’s sin) was pride and pride damned him to hell. Pride is what will lead you to believe you can live independent of God… and maybe you can… for a short season. But, death will show all of us just how much we need God! We depend on Him for everything, all the time!
If you are not depending on God for salvation… you’re depending on yourself and you will be sorely disappointed at the judgment!
Repent of your desire to live independent of God!
Believe on Christ — depend on Him for your salvation!
